Princesshay's First Birthday Celebrations
Date: 12 Nov 2008
PRINCESSAY INVITES YOU TO A STREET PARTY TO CELEBRATE THE SHOPPING QUARTER’S 1ST BIRTHDAY!
This Saturday 20th September marks the one-year anniversary of the award-winning Princesshay quarter in Exeter. To celebrate, visitors to the shopping quarter will be treated to a dynamic mix of world class street entertainment between 11.30am and 3.30pm including live music, comedy and magic, balloon modelling, stilt walking and juggling!
Exeter City Council and Princesshay have joined forces to provide a programme of fun family entertainment. Highlights on the day will include enchanting and interactive puppet show, the Flying Buttresses, fantastic juggler and clown Dan the Hat and Oyster Opera, who combine beautiful singing with a good dose of audience participation.
Emma Mcleod, Princesshay Marketing Manager said, ‘We have thoroughly enjoyed making the most of the fantastic outdoor space we have at Princesshay by organising a range of activities and events over the last year. These have included charity events, children’s entertainment, street performances, music, acrobats and much more. As we have received great feedback from shoppers about the events, but most speficically the street entertainment, we feel that a day of juggling, music and comedy is a great way for local people to share in and celebrate our first birthday this Saturday.’
The £225 million scheme, delivered by Land Securities in partnership with Exeter City Council, represents the single largest investment in the history of the city, transforming the retail line-up with over sixty new shops, cafes and restaurants, along with 123 stunning apartments offering sought after city centre living.
John Harvey, Exeter City Centre Manager said, ‘We’re exceptionally proud of the scheme and the contribution it has made to delivering a really vibrant City Centre. The success of its first year is testament to the great working partnership between Exeter City Council and Land Securities. The Princesshay shopping quarter has been nationally recognised for excellence helping to raise the profile of Exeter as a leading shopping destination and we’re now looking ahead to Christmas and special events we have planned.’
Princesshay is home to a fantastic mix of big brands and family favourites, with Debenhams anchoring the scheme. Teamed with an exciting mix of fashion names and a lively mix of independent, speciality and niche retailers Princesshay sets itself apart from the rest offering a distinctive retail experience. The majority of local and regional independent retailers are located in Roman Walk and Bedford Street with the mix including an optician, a jeweller, a delicatessen and contemporary florist.
Over the past year, Exeter residents and visitors have embraced Princesshay’s superb cafe and restaurant culture which includes Exeshed the stylish independent restaurant and cocktail bar, authentic Mediterranean flavours at La Tasca and delicious oriental cuisine at Wagamama’s. The four other popular restaurants throughout the Princesshay quarter include Nando’s, Strada, Cafe Rouge and Giraffe.
