EXETER GAMERS BATTLE IT OUT IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
Date: 24 Feb 2010
Exeter's Steven Turner takes regional title of Supreme Gamer and qualification to grand final in London
Steven Turner from Exwick was crowned Exeter’s Supreme Gamer at the regional play-off of The Carphone Warehouse’s Supreme Gamer EA SPORTS FIFA 10 challenge. As well as the coveted title, Steven took home a Samsung Jet handset and a £50 Carphone Warehouse voucher.
He beat the runner-up Aaron Summer 4-0 in a tense and exciting final.
Gamers from across the region visited the store at the Princesshay Shopping Centre to compete against each other on the popular computer game. Steven will now face other regional winners from across the country as they compete for the overall Supreme Gamer title.
Dave Heffer, store manager of The Carphone Warehouse at the Princesshay Shopping Centre, comments: “ With all of the dedicated gamers and fans of Fifa 10 in Exeter, our ‘Supreme Gamer Challenge’ has given the area’s gamers an opportunity to pit their skills against the region’s very best in person, rather than traditionally online.”
“On behalf of everyone at the store I’d like to offer Steven our congratulations and wish him luck for the final, which will be played later this year.”
The Carphone Warehouse launched the unique gaming challenge earlier this year for fans of Fifa 10 to test their gaming skills against other Exeter gaming fans.
Steven will now be invited to compete against other winners from across the UK. The prize on offer is a 32in HDTV, a gaming console of the winner’s choice, two accompanying games plus a Logitech® Squeezebox™ (music streaming device), as well as the title of The Carphone Warehouse’s Supreme Gamer!
