Exeter Community Transport wins People's Millions
Date: 14 Dec 2007
Exeter CTA, located on Paris Street in Princesshay, has won £85,000 to set up a specialist transport scheme offering an accessible vehicle with trained, caring drivers after winning The People’s Millions shown recently on ITV. The programme has been designed to help the public choose how their community benefits from Lottery funding.
Exeter CTA have been awarded the money to fund ExeAccess, a specialist transport scheme aimed at bridging the gap in the commercial service and offering a lifeline to people in Exeter who live with limited mobility. The winning funds will enable the local charity to purchase a specially adapted vehicle for easy wheelchair / scooter access in order to offer a taxi service aimed at people who need additional help getting into and out of vehicles.
Fundraising and Publicity Officer, Deborah Rylands, says “We are awe struck at the support that we have had from everyone in helping make this happen. Thousands of people voted for our project to win we are delighted that we now have the opportunity to reach these people and help them take part in the activities that matter to them. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for voting for ExeAccess.”
Sally Henley, Princesshay Manager says, “I’m delighted for Exeter Community Transport Association who thoroughly deserve this extra funding. The new, modern and
dedicated facilities on Paris Street help shoppers enjoy Princesshay and I’m really pleased that this further transport service
will now be available for the citizens of Exeter.”
